Safe Sleep is Everyone’s Business
Every family deserves peace of mind when traveling with their little ones. Because SIDS remains a leading cause of death among infants ages one month to one year, providing a safe sleep environment matters wherever families stay.
By using cribs that meet applicable CPSC federal safety standards and following proper inspection and setup procedures, your property can help provide a safer place for every baby to rest. Because when families travel, they depend on you to provide a safe sleep solution for their children.
From ownership to housekeeping, everyone has a role to play in creating a safer sleep environment for your youngest guests.

Corporate & Owners
Specify Approved Cribs & Bedding
· Specify commercial-grade cribs designed for the rigors of hospitality use. Avoid retail cribs not built for frequent
use, as these aren’t tested to the same rigorous standards
· Establish an approved crib and bedding list,
including cribs, play yards, crib mattresses, and properly fitted sheets, and communicate how properties should procure them. Proper bedding is just as important as the proper crib. Improperly fitting bedding creates a suffocation risk. Make sure the crib sheet specified is appropriately fitted for your selected cribs.

Housekeeping
Inspect Cribs Before Every Use
• Check for loose hardware, sharp edges, and missing or damaged parts and confirm the crib is compliant based on its manufacture date
• For play yards, check for holes or tears in the mesh and make sure all side rails lock securely upright
• If any issue is found, remove the product from service immediately and notify management
Housekeeping
Check the Mattress, Sheet & Sleep Space
• Make sure the mattress is firm, undamaged and properly fitted, with no more than a ½" gap on any side when centered. If the mattress has any holes or tears, it should be replaced. Use only approved replacement mattresses.
• Use a tight-fitting crib sheet that cannot be easily pulled from the mattress. NEVER use adult sheets or a folded flat sheet.
• Keep the crib bare: no pillows, blankets, bumpers, toys, stuffed animals or other loose items. Extra or loose bedding can be a suffocation hazard and increase a baby’s risk of SIDS.
Housekeeping
Place the Crib in a Safe Location
• Keep cribs and play yards away from windows and blind cords and anything a child could reach or pull into the sleep space.
• Keep away from pools, heaters, irons and other potential hazards
• Provide the Foundations Sleep Safely Crib Card to help communicate safe sleep practices to guests
